Did Someone Say Road Trip to Central and South America?
Sometime in year 2010, Ed and Patty Lonsbary will begin a
5-7 year journey aboard “Dolly's Pride” throughout Central and South
America. You can be a part of the trip! Reserve a time now
for a segment of the trip that interests you. Or, capture the
journey on the web as Patty chronicles the trip in her online
journal “Did Someone Say Road Trip?”
The Lonsbary’s have long held the dream to travel this part of
the America's. The first inkling of this plan appeared on the
Private Motor Coach, Inc. brochure first printed in 1999. The
silhouette of North, South and Central Americas appears on the
inside panel. “I've thought globally since the day I founded
this company,” says Ed. “I am ready to see places where there
isn't a Wal-Mart on every highway and where I can experience
new people and cultures. I am bored with North America.”
Patty has a different perspective. “As a small child, my Dad
gave me a book titled Dolly Goes Around the World. I
memorized the book and to this day can still recite the part
about Dolly’s travels to the coffee fields of Brazil, the
forests of Peru, and the pampas of Argentina. I want to
experience South America and now is the best time of my life
to do it. I have raised my kids, had a proud career in fund
raising for worthy causes, and now its time to go to Atlanta
the long way around. This is an opportunity I don’t want to
miss!”
Although the Lonsbary’s expect to travel as a couple through
most South America, they are extending their hospitality and
space aboard “Patty’s Charm” for persons who would like
to join them on this once-in-a lifetime trip.
As a part of this trip, Patty hopes that her long time
connection to Rotary International will be a plus. She plans
to visit Rotary Clubs throughout the countries of South
America and enjoy the fellowship of Rotarians. “I am also
hoping that some Rotarians will offer to host us by offering a
spot on their property for us to park the motor coach while we
explore their towns.”
During this trip, Patty also plans to chronicle the journey
via an online journal “Did Someone Say Road Trip?” and
eventually turn the information into a book on the RV
experience in South America.

Red Leader Hits the Road June 13th
With barely a day to spare in his travel calendar,
Ed Lonsbary aka “Red Leader” will hit the road. June 13th
through November 6th , he'll travel from Texas to
Vermont, Vermont to British Columbia, British Columbia to
Nebraska, Nebraska to South Dakota and Wyoming, Wyoming to
Ohio, Ohio to Texas then back to Ohio and Texas, then onward
to New Mexico and Arizona before finally returning to Texas.
Routes zigzag up and down, across and back for the travelers
who booked these trips. Each trip is special and tailored to
specific needs which include a run to a summer home to escape
the Texas heat, a family trip honoring Mom and Dad, a tour of
Yellowstone before a family’s first daughter goes off to
college, a family reunion, a celebration of a 50th
Birthday, and a special tour of the Southwest.
“I am happy to make each of these trips a dream come true,”
says Lonsbary. He adds, “This is a remarkable turn around
compared to the slow season of 2005, but I used that year to
market the concept of private travel, make improvements in the
coach, and increase the presence of the company on the web.
It’s paid off.”
FMCA 2005 Convention: America on the Move
Ed Lonsbary felt right a home in The Georgia National
Fairgrounds and Agricenter – the location of the 73rd
International Convention of the Family Motor Coach
Association. He had first attended the FMCA Convention there
in 1999 when he launched Private Motor Coach, Inc. Now, he
returned some six-years later for this subsequent event. Some
6,467 motor coaches housed the FMCA members who attended the
2005 Convention from March 21 – 24.
Ed enjoyed the ample supply of hospitality as he visited with
friends and made new acquaintances. He delved into the
products and technology offered by convention vendors. And,
he served on a panel hosted by National Bus Trader
Publisher Larry Plachno.
Some 75 people attended that panel discussion “All About
Diesel Buses” and asked questions about bus conversions,
maintenance, electrical and other technical matters, and fuel
mileage. George Myers of Epic Conversions and Bill Jensen of
Prevost also served on the panel.
“Don’t Mess With Texas Trash Off Day”
Thanks to members of the Whitehouse High School Spanish
Club, Old Tyler Road in Whitehouse, Texas is litter free! Six
members of the Club joined Ed and Patty Lonsbary on Saturday,
April 2nd in cleaning up the litter along this
stretch of road which Private Motor Coach, Inc. adopted as a
part of the Keep Whitehouse Beautiful Program.
From early morning until noon on “Don’t Mess With Texas Trash
Off Day 2005,” this group of students collected a truck load
of roadside litter. The students who participated in this
community service project include: Kristen Bowie, Sam Mullens,
Alan Idjao, Marck Madulid, Michael Knowels and the Lonsbary’s
daughter Suzie Wassel who acted as the “boss.”
